NAIROBI  – TECHNOLOGY platforms and awareness campaigns undertaken by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) have been lauded for the significant increase in number of locals filing their income tax returns.

The East African country has seen 3,2 million citizens filing during the period ending June 30.

The improvement is significant with a 60 percent growth over last year.

KRA attributed this to efficiency of the iTax platform and increased awareness campaign undertaken to encourage early filing of returns as well as on-site filing support extended to organisations countrywide.

Benson Korongo, the KRA Commissioner of Domestic Taxes, acknowledged and appreciated all taxpayers who turned up to the call to pay their taxes and file timely tax returns within the year 2017.

“KRA recognises your contribution towards making the country self-sustainable,” Karongo said.

He reminded Kenyans that late payment and filing of taxes attracted penalties and interest.

“Kenyans are therefore urged to be compliant through full declaration of their taxes, accurate/timely payment and filing.”
