NAIROBI – KENYA and South Sudan have embarked on a major seamless fibre optic cable project aimed at improving communication.

According to Kenya’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) Cabinet secretary, Fred Matiang’i, the move would ensure effective communication and spur trade with South Sudan

In this joint ICT project, Kenya would lay fibre optic cable covering 600 kilometres while South Sudan would do the same right from Kenya’s Eldoret straight to Juba.

The partnership agreement between the two east African countries would see the laying down of fibre optic cables on the Eldoret-Nadapal-Juba route, integrating ICT into the proposed road infrastructure development.

The new development would see smooth communication between the two countries, improve data connectivity, as well as create jobs for both countries.
