Kenya prepares for regional ICT conference
from MARIA MACHARIA in Nairobi, Kenya
NAIROBI – PREPARATIONS for the Connected East African Conference are underway.
The seventh edition of the event previously known as Connected Kenya is scheduled for March 30 to April 2 in Diani, Kwale County.
In tandem with the agenda, the theme this year is, “Integration: The strength in our networks.”
“We look to gather key decision-makers from the region leading regional ICT companies, policy makers, government and academia with the aim of furthering business across borders,” organisers said.
The Kenya ICT Authority organises the event.
“The discussions at Connected East Africa Summit will showcase best-practice and explore new strategies that will ensure ICT investment enables growth for all East African countries,” the organisation said.
Among themes include Shared ICT Infrastructure, following governments in East Africa committing to improve regional connectivity by promoting access to submarine cables for landlocked countries and improving cross border backhaul links.
The ICT Ministerial Committee will present a progress report at the Connected East Africa Summit.
Another theme, ICT and Service Delivery to the Citizen, comes amid ICTs having transformed public service delivery in East Africa.
Other themes include ICT and Economic Growth and ICT Policy and framework.
The Summit will focus on the need for East African governments to promote integrated ICT infrastructure and seek ‘critical infrastructure protection’ for the shared regional resources.
Delegates will also hear about initiative like the One Network Area for East Africa and the role such frameworks can play in driving down cost and enhancing competitiveness of the region.
Registration for the event has opened.
