ABUJA – NIGERIA’S main opposition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted on the use of the card reader for the rescheduled general elections.

The opposition party argued the use of the reader for the polls slated for March 28 and April 11 was “non-negotiable.”

According to a communiqué issued at the end of its Joint Leadership Meeting held in Shehu Musa Yar’dua Centre Abuja, the party said the development is contrary to the alleged misinformation being disseminated that the use of card reader was not compliant with electronic voting.

“That the use of the card reader for the 28th of March and 11th of April is non-negotiable, as contrary to the misinformation being disseminated the use of card reader is not synonymous with electronic voting,” part of the communiqué signed by the party National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed read.

The party added that the reschedule election dates remained sacrosanct as the party would not tolerate any further shift

It meanwhile called for immediate and necessary disciplinary action against individuals were allegedly involved in the violation of democracy in the Ekiti Governorship election held in June, as revealed by some media.

“Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh should be immediately investigated by the military authorities. The Hon Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan, should immediately be relieved of his ministerial appointment and the former Minister of State for Defence Affairs Senator Musliu Obanikoro, whose name has just been sent to the Senate for confirmation again as a minister of the Federal Republic, must not be confirmed by the Senate and must be barred henceforth from holding any public office,” urged APC

The APC said the military should be kept away from election duties in line with the recent Court of Appeal decision.

According to APC, the Sokoto Federal High Court Judgement ruled as illegal the participation of the military in the electoral process.

“The military should be kept away from election duties henceforth,” stated APC.
