ECOWAS automated scheme unveiled in Abuja


ABUJA – THE Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched an integrated management system aimed at improving the financial and administrative management of its institutions.

Launched at the ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja, ECOLINK, the automated administrative and financial regulation system, is consistent with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and the attendant best practices.

President of the Commission, Kadré Desire Ouédraogo, described ECOLink, as a modernized management system with various parameters.

These include automated payment transactions that permits electronic processing of requisition, vetting of documents, quotations from vendors, technical evaluation and purchase orders.

Ouédraogo said the European Union, as a development partner, supported the project.

He said it was, in this age of modern technology, it is unacceptable that a model regional economic community like ECOWAS was still be running manual processes.

ECOWAS Commissioner of Finance, Khadi Ramatu Saccoh, said the implementation of the accompanying Systems Application and Products (SAP) was tailored to the needs of ECOWAS institutions and agencies.

“We realized that beyond an enterprise resource planning (ERP) such as SAP, ECOWAS Community deserved an Integrated Management System which would serve as a platform for its entire management activities,” Saccoh said.
