Telkom announces massive fibre rollout
JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – MORE than 12 000 homes in Brynston, Johannesburg, will have access to fibre technology by early next year, in what Telkom said would be the largest fibre rollout to date.
The fibre rollout, scheduled to conclude in March , is underway.
Telkom Managing Director of Wholesale and Networks, Alphonzo Samuels, said they were rolling out fibre to all of Bryanston as part of our aggressive push to provide one million homes with fibre access by 2018.
“Bryanston will be a model for the country when it comes to connecting entire suburbs to fibre broadband,” he said.
Last week, Telkom announced that its open access fibre broadband network would include more than 25 additional areas, suburbs and communities by the end of this month.
Fibre will soon be available around the country in multiple additional suburbs of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Port Elizabeth.
Fibre to the home currently allows for download speeds of up to 100 megabits per second.
