JOHANNESBURG – A RAPIDLY changing technological media landscape and significant shifts in the socio-economic environment highlight the key role of the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) in ensuring the continued growth and sustainability of community media.
This is according to Phelisa Nkomo, Chairperson of the MDDA Board, following the appointment of Themba Dlamini as Chief Executive Officer.
“Mr Dlamini assumes the leadership of the MDDA at a crucial juncture in the development of the MDDA, and of the community media sector as a whole,” says Nkomo.
She says Dlamini’s proven record of leadership of some entities will ensure MDDA fulfils its mandate in promoting and creating an enabling environment to redress marginalisation of disadvantaged communities and persons from access to the media.
Dlamini is the former Managing Director of the Black Management Forum and CEO of the National Gambling Board, Independent Communications Authority and the Construction Education and Training Authority.
Other positions formerly held include, within the South African government as Deputy Director-General for Corporate Services and Governance at the Department of Science and Technology and Special Advisor to the Minister of Labour.
