JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – SKILLS for Africa, the initiative by SAP Africa, has received the prestigious Hasso Plattner Founders’ Award, the highest employee recognition at SAP.
Philanthropist and businessman Plattner is co-founder of the German-headquartered company.
SAP Chief Executive Officer, Bill McDermott, awards the accolade yearly to an individual or a team from around the globe.
SAP Africa Skills for Africa affords participants the opportunity to develop
world-class IT and business skills (with exacting global SAP certification) and then translates the training into internships and employment with customers and partners of SAP.
The programme contributes to creating sustainable workplaces for the next generation of African youth by creating a pool of skilled local African resources that can drive the innovation agenda over the next few decades.
Meena Confait, Head of SAP Africa Skills for Africa, says the initiative delivers on SAP’s vision by addressing Africa’s skills gap in a simple yet effective way.
“SAP not only trains and certifies young and dynamic graduates through this programme, it also puts them into employment. This creates a sustainable skills pipeline that enhances SAP’s long term viability, and brings us closer to bringing
the promise of digital transformation to life on the African continent,” says Confait.
The SAP Africa Skills for Africa team consists of Confait, Tarryn Naidoo, Malese Ndhlovu, and Chris van der Merwe.
Confait adds the team took a design thinking approach in developing and implementing the SAP Africa Skills for Africa initiative.
Since the inception of the programme in 2015, 418 associate consultants have been placed in SAP ecosystems across Africa, with more on the way in 2017.
SAP Africa Managing Director, Brett Parker, says Skills for Africa is in line with a growth plan for the continent, which included the vision to upskill of a new generation of IT leaders and professionals.
He is proud of the team for the incredible work towards creating tangible skills development and employment opportunities for Africa’s youth.
“It is through groundbreaking initiatives such as this that we will see the promise of digital transformation come to life on the African continent,” says Parker.
