JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – FIRST National Bank (FNB) has emerged the biggest Innovation Index 2017 winner at the Accenture Innovation Conference in Johannesburg.
The financial institution secured the Overall Innovation Master (turnover in excess of R35 million (US$2,6 million)).
It was named joint Large Enterprise Concept category with: InterGreatMe.
For the latter award, according to the citation by Accenture and partners-Transunion and The Da Vinci Institute- FNB became the first bank in South Africa to launch a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) branded as FNB Connect.
It is fully integrated into their core banking systems and digital customer facing channels.
“It is the first in the South African industry to break away from the traditional 24-month contract norm by launching an innovative SIM plan that is billed on a month to month basis with no fixed term commitment (Connect Flexi),” read the citation.
Meanwhile, Bramhope Group was Overall Innovation Master (turnover less than R35 million): Bramhope Group.
It is the leading supplier of personal protective equipment, maintenance, repair and pperations and corporate workwear.
The company provides a wide range of health and safety-related products as well as outdoor and leisure goods.
Other winners were KEY360 App (Medium Enterprises Concept category),ColonyLive (Emerging Enterprises Concept) and HearScreen TX concept (Small Enterprises Concept).
Ntombi Mhangwani, Africa Director for Integrated Marketing and Communications at Accenture, said all participants were assessed based on their level of advancements in innovation.
Adjudicators paid special attention to concepts, product developments, process and system designs, as well as how they delivered and commercialised their offerings.
“We also looked at their commitment to projects across the organisation, including senior management; and ability to make use of ever evolving technology in all its forms as a way of improving value to customers and operational procedures,” Mhangwani said.
