Uganda expanding ICT ties with China

KAMPALA – UGANDA is deepening its cooperation with China in the field of information and communications technologies (ICTs).
A recent meeting between Fan Xuecheng, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, and the latter’s Minister of Information and Information and Communications, Chris Baryomunsi, has paved the way for that.
“China is willing to continue to strengthen digital economic cooperation between the two countries,” Xuecheng assured.
The envoy pledged China’s willingness to assist Uganda’s digital development, economic and social transformation as well as continuing to expand the comprehensive cooperative partnership between China and Uganda.
Relations between China and Uganda were established in 1962, the year the landlocked East African country attained independence from Britain.
The local ICT sector has been among the major beneficiaries of these bilateral ties.
Baryomunsi welcomed Chinese firms’ assistance in Uganda digital transformation and talent cultivation.
“Uzbekistan is willing to work with China to continuously promote bilateral information communication and digital economic cooperation to benefit the two peoples,” the minister said.
The Chinese global technology firm, ZTE, in recent days donated furniture to the Luyanzi Institute of Technology, located in the Bweyogerere region of the capital, Kampala.
Xuecheng attended the handover ceremony alongside former Uganda vice president, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.
